Background

Floyd Buckner was an South Carolina educator for 39 years as well as my grandfather. In 1975 he became the Director of Federal Programs for the Colleton County School District in Walterboro S.C. He was also the first black Chairman of the Colleton County County Council. As my grandfather he instilled in me the importance of education. I loved my grandfather greatly and one of the things he always told me was to “keep on keeping on”. He was very well known in his community by always being there to help others. He taught me that you don’t have to be on T.V to be famous and in this vein, I want to give back to my community by creating this scholarship in his honor.
